LAND BACK COMMUNITY EVENT

During the month of the colonial holiday of Thanksgiving, we are thinking about how the work of PDX HSP interrelates with calls for repair from the Indigenous Land Back movement.

For this community event we were grateful to be hosting Jillene Joseph, enrolled member of the Gros Ventre or Aaniiih people, and board member of the Future Generations Collaborative (FGC).

Jillene shared about Barbie’s Village, a land back transfer of the former Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church building and the property it sits on. FGC uses the building as a community hub and is developing a tiny home village on the property for houseless Native parents with small children.

Co-Working Sessions

Periodically the PDX Housing Solidarity Project hosts co-working sessions for individuals who want work on our giving plans and other direct actions in a group.

These are shared spaces for people to chat, plan, and act on their anti-racist, housing-related wealth redistribution efforts. For many of us, this work necessitates community and is ushered forward best with structured time, space, and support.

If you are interested in joining, the next session, let us know!

Portland Housing-Related Wealth Redistribution Co-Working Session

The Privileged Panel: A Q&A About Redistribution of Housing-Related Wealth

In April 2023 we hosted a panel discussion and Q&A session with four Portlanders who have creatively redistributed wealth towards housing equity. Before the panel discussion, we briefly recapped the history of racism in housing and city planning, and we gave an overview of what the PDX Housing Solidarity Project does.

PDX Housing Solidarity Project Kickoff Event

Our first event in March 2022 introduced the PDX Housing Solidarity Project, described the history of racism in housing and city planning, provided some examples of people who have redistributed wealth to support Black and Native homebuyers, and offered ways to take action.
