This page is for PDX Housing Solidarity Project volunteers and homebuyers to provide a visual guide of the homebuying process. There are two diagrams presented here, which indicate the processes we have seen and options we are aware of for homebuyers in different income brackets. They are described in terms of the homebuyer’s “AMI” or relative position to the Area Median Income, which specific to the location of the house location. To determine where you are in terms of the AMI for a particular location, you can use the following tools:

HUD

These diagrams show common options for homebuyers whose income is below 0.8 (or 80%) of the AMI, and those whose income is above 1.0 (or 100%) of the AMI. For folks between 0.8 and 1.0 AMI, the options will be a blend of the two diagrams, and right now we recommend you talk with your homebuyer navigator about your specific situation to get a sense of that.
